Mads and I decided to be real tourists today and sit outside at a swanky cafe in the cobblestone-part of Cusco and celebrate my 26th birthday two days early. We chowed down on our new favorite dish, causa, along with yuca and tomales, and, wait for it, alcohol! This is probably the third time we’ve had drinks since arriving about a month ago, and with Mads fasting yesterday for Yom Kippur, we had to take it slow, with a two-drink maximum (for me).
Heading over to Guido’s afterward, the birthday fun continued, as Angela, Guido’s wife, invited us over to her house tomorrow for a traditional Peruvian lunch. She said we were looking pretty flaca and insisted on cooking something special for us. Ah, just like the Jewish mothers of West Hartford.
